King of Jordan stops in Haiti, Spain on way back from US

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah arrived home on Sunday from a working visit to US, where he held talks with US President Barack Obama that focused on bilateral ties and regional developments, with special emphasis on the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

On the way back home, the King on Saturday visited Haiti to check on the Jordanian peacekeeping forces deployed in the Caribbean country, a Royal Court statement said.

He also made a stopover in Madrid, where he held talks with King Juan Carlos that focused on means to enhance bilateral ties and the latest regional developments.

In Washington, His Majesty also met with Vice President Joe Biden, congressional leaders and committees and leaders of US-Jewish and Muslim organisations. He attended a US-Jordan Business Alliance meeting.

King Abdullah met with Haitian President Michel Martelly and discussed with him ways to boost bilateral ties in addition to issues of mutual concern.

Upon arrival at the airport, the Monarch was received by HRH Prince Feisal, HRH Prince Raad, Chief Chamberlain, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Senate President Taher Masri, Lower House Speaker Saad Hayel Srour, senior officials and high-ranking military officers and the US Ambassador in the Kingdom Stuart Jones.
