AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday strongly denounced violations by Jewish extremists who have recently broken into the Al Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah said the Israeli government should shoulder its responsibility in preventing Israeli extremists from carrying out such acts, adding that Tel Aviv should respect the sanctity of holy sites.

Such serious and grave acts of aggression feed violence and tension in the region and they are a breach of international resolutions and conventions, the minister noted.

He affirmed that Jordan will continue to perform its religious and historic duty in safeguarding the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sites.
