The Prince Salman Chair for the History and Civilization of the Arabian Peninsula will organize a forum for Saudi chairs and scientific centers abroad to discuss relations between Islamic and Western cultures on Jan. 5.
A number of scientific chairs and centers that the Kingdom supports financially in countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and Russia will participate in this forum.

Participants will discuss ways to strengthen the channels of interaction between the Islamic and Western cultures. They will also discuss investments in various forms of knowledge-based channels for the exchange of expertise and contributions to enrich knowledge.

“The Ministry of Higher Education conducted a number of field studies to shape a scientific vision for the cooperation of Saudi chairs and knowledge-based centers abroad with Saudi universities. Such a cooperation would strengthen various forms of scientific interaction that would serve Saudi specialists and students in different fields,” Minister Khaled Al-Anqari said yesterday.

The Prince Salman Chair was launched in December 2009, when an agreement was signed between King Saud University and King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), an organization dedicated to in-depth study and research in history, geography, literature and heritage of Saudi Arabia, and other Arab and Muslim countries.

The chair supports researchers and postgraduate students in the history of the Arabian Peninsula. It organizes and supports international seminars, publishes research findings and establishes research partnerships with other academic centers of history.

The chair also hopes to ultimately fulfill its vision of achieving international leadership in the academic studies of Islamic and Arab civilizations and history.
