The Pakistani teenage activist who was shot in the head by the Taliban and is currently recuperating at a Birmingham hospital has been named Teenager of the Year by The Times. Malala Yousafzai, 15, who lived in a Taliban-controlled area, gained international attention in 2009, when she started writing a blog where she denounced Taliban crimes and defended girls’ right to receive an education.

On October 9th Malala was wounded in the head and neck as a bus she and her fellow students were travelling in came under fire in the city of Mingora in the Swat Valley.
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack.
