Muslim women’s group hosts Qur’an exhibition

The holy book of the Islamic religion will be on display at the main city library.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association of Burlington is hosting The Holy Qur’an Exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Centennial Hall at Central Library, 2331 New St.

The day-long exhibition will highlight various facets of the Qur’an on various posters around the hall.

Translations of the Qur’an in about 50 languages from around the world also will be displayed. As well, YouTube clips about the Qur’an will be shown on a projector.

The revelation of the Qur’an to the Holy Prophet Muhammad started at age 40 in the year 610.

Revelations were not only transcribed while the Prophet was alive, but also recited by heart by his early followers and later by the many believers who gathered around him.

The revelations continued for 23 years.

Fatima Mumtaz, president of The Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association, Burlington chapter, said the local chapter has 20 female members and about 70 members altogether.

The group began about nine years ago as an offshoot of a GTA branch.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community — the official name of the organization is Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at — is a global religious group founded in 1889. It has tens of millions of followers in more than 190 countries.

The global organization is known for its approach to interfaith dialogue and engagement in charitable work such as running schools and hospitals in developing countries where the need is most acute.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at categorically rejects all forms of extremism… extremism and an aggressive ‘Jihad with the sword’ has no place in Islam. The best way to defend Islam is through an intellectual ‘Jihad with the pen’,” according to the teachings of the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
