RIYADH—Twenty-five Indonesian maids are on death row in Saudi Arabia and 22 others have been pardoned and sent home, local media reported on Friday, adding that Jakarta will send a delegation for talks on the issue.
“Twenty-two death row Indonesian inmates in the Kingdom have been exonerated and repatriated back to Indonesia, while 25 maids are still facing death sentences in Saudi Arabia for various offences,” the English-language daily Arab News reported.
“Six housemaids are on death row in Riyadh province alone, whereas about 19 female workers have been handed death sentences in the Western region,” it quoted the Indonesian embassy’s spokesman, Hendrar Pramutyo, as saying.
Jakarta will send “a 14-member presidential task force to the Kingdom on April 7 to talk to Saudi officials and to intensify efforts in cooperation with its embassy to rescue the maids,” the daily quoted Pramutyo as saying. Read more

Something is seriously lacking which can prevent the journey from Duty to Death!
The story makes painful reading.the poor maids from indonesia, must have been victims of un-fair un-just social system at home, due to which, they were lured into such a false journey for a life of plenty from jakarta to saudiarabia, land of imaginary opportunities for foreigners/outsiders.It is hoped that all such mercy cases be handled carefully. all maids be sent back to the land of their origin and both governments, of jakarta and saudia must share the responsibility of their repatriation and rehabilitation so as to enable them to live famiy life of their own, yes, an honourable life, once again.
The issue is very complicated. Yes, on the one side many maids are ill-treated, however, on the other hand many are entrusted with looking after babies without any training and some of them without any aptitude either. Therefore we have to look at the complete picture and not only one side.
But, why a death sentence? How blood-thirsty can a nation get? What are they supposed to have done to deserve that? It is terrible!
