No Hijab, no school: Egypt versus France — Who is right and who is wrong?

In Egypt, on her first day in her new High School, a 15 year old Ferial Habib was stopped on the door. Either you put on a Hijab, she was told, or you cannot enter. The girl refused. Habib is Coptic Christian, and they do not usually wear a Hijab in the mostly Muslim Egypt.

That a School Administration wanted to force a Christian girl to wear a Hijab has not happened up to now.

In France Muslim girls wanted to attend High School wearing a Hijab. They were told that they could not attend the school if they did not take off their Hijab.

Who is right? Who is wrong? Who is civilized? Who is not? Seems the two countries are on the same level of disregard of Human Rights, disregard of Freedom of Religion, disregard of Freedom of Choice.

  1. Both of them should learn from Bangladesh. Bangla court decided that authorities are no more to decide anybody’s dress.
