London riots: Man charged with robbing Malaysian student Asyraf

LONDON: A man has been charged with robbing a Malaysian student who fell victim to thieves pretending to help him during the riots in London, the Telegraph reported Saturday.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said Reece Donovan, of Milton Court, Cross Road, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Essex, had been charged with robbing Asyraf Haziq Rosli (pix), the Telegraph reported.

Asyraf, 20, who won a scholarship to the UK to study accountancy, was rushed to hospital with a broken jaw on Monday after being set upon during London’s riots less than a month after arriving in Britain.

The attack prompted widespread anger after police said hooded youths initially pretended to help Asyraf before allegedly going through his backpack, stealing his mobile phone and wallet, in Barking, east London, on Monday night.
