‘US mobilises $1 billion to support Kingdom’s economy’

AMMAN (JT) – US President Barack Obama announced plans on Tuesday for economic assistance to the Kingdom to help lay the conditions for economic growth and stability.

Speaking to the press after his meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah, Obama said he discussed with the King the US role in supporting the Kingdom’s economic reform efforts.

Obama announced that the US has “mobilised several hundreds of millions of dollars through OPIC [US Overseas Private Investment Corporation], and that will leverage ultimately about $1 billion for economic development inside of Jordan”.

“In addition, because of the huge spike in commodity prices throughout the world, we are going to be providing 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Jordan,” he said.
