HRC is deeply concerned by the escalating situation in Syria, including the deaths of protestors and security personnel, and the deepening social polarisation.
Syria has been at the forefront of forging an independent bloc in the region, that has stood by the Palestinian cause and repelled foreign intervention in the region. Syria risks throwing this all away if it does not move towards organic reform and social policies that foster the legitimate aspirations and needs of the Syrian people.
Chair of Islamic Human Rights Commission, Massoud Shadjareh said:
“Syria must take immediate action to ensure that it does not fall victim to the discourse of western intervention. Reviewing and reforming its policies to counteract polarisation and work towards a strong and just society is a mark of strength that is much needed at this precarious time.”
