UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday called on the UN Security Council to convene an international conference that would result in the recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

“We call for the convening of an international peace conference by mid-2018, based on international law and the relevant UN resolutions, with broad international participation and including the two concerned parties and the regional and international stakeholders,” he said.
The outcome of this conference should be “acceptance of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations,” he noted.
