Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada – Mississauga chapter staged a grand event at Mississauga City Hall to mark the 50 years in Canada. There were 500 people in the big and beautiful The Great Hall of the City Hall. In attendance there were many dignitaries – Lal Khan Malik President AMJ Canada, Bonnie Crombie, Mayor, Bob Delanie, MPP and many city councillors. The Hall was beautiful decked with posters and flags. Holy Quran was recited by a Syrian Mr Mazen with translation.
Master of Ceremonies for this event was Bob Delanie, MPP from Mississauga. The event started with singing of Canadian anthem by Ahmadi children followed by brief speeches by Lal Khan Malik, Syed Ahsan Gardezi, a speech in Arabic by a Syrian Mr. Hasham al-Kurdi. Video message of greetings from Prime Minster Trudeau was read by Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP. Later Mr. Delanie read the message from Premier Kathleen Wynn. Mayor Bonnie Crombie was gracious to say few sentences in Urdu and goodby in Arabic as well Urdu.
All the speakers lauded services of AMJ Canada like million pound food drive, blood donation, cleaning of streets, adopting the parks, Humanity First sponsoring 100 Syrian refugees, aid to Fort McMurray fire ravaged city, and other sterling services of Humanity First. Mr Lal Khan Khan assured the mayor that we will soon build a mosque in Mississauga. Mayor Crombie said I am proud to be mayor of this city.
All the prominent dignitaries were presented with plaques from AMJ Canada. Later a cake was cut by the Mayor, and all the participants were served with refreshments.
