BeritaObserver.Com, Jakarta — Gugun Gumilar, Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs, emphasized that the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Congregation (JMAI) has a clear legal basis in Indonesia. Therefore, Gugun expressed his regret over the disbandment of the Ahmadiyya youth camp in Karanganyar.
“We met with friends from the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in real life. I was very pleased to meet with my friend, Ustaz Zaki, the Amir of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, and colleagues in Manislor, Kuningan Regency, West Java,” Gugun said, as quoted on Thursday (June 11).
Gugun stated that JMAI’s existence has been recognized by the state since 1953. The Indonesian Minister of Justice, through Decree No. JA.5/23/13, designated it as a legal entity. This decree was published in Supplement to the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia No. 26 dated March 31, 1953.
“This regulation was updated in September 2025 by the Indonesian Ministry of Law,” said Gugun.
Gugun clarified the Joint Decree of the Three Ministers. According to him, the Joint Decree neither prohibits nor orders the disbandment of Ahmadiyah activities.
“On the contrary, the Joint Decree mandates the public not to commit acts of intimidation, discrimination, or unlawful acts against Ahmadiyah,” he said.
Gugun regretted the disbandment of the JMAI youth camping activity in Karanganyar some time ago due to mass pressure.
He assessed that this action has the potential to harm citizens’ constitutional rights to religion, belief, assembly and peaceful activities in accordance with the law.
“Such actions can also leave trauma for children and young people who participate in the activities,” he said.
Gugun also admitted to having become close to the Ahmadiyya community since studying in the United States 10 years ago. In the US and Europe, he observed the Ahmadiyya playing a role in education, social affairs, public policy, and even economics.
He closed with an invitation to continue to maintain harmony.
“Let’s continue to maintain harmony! Let’s continue to dialogue! Let’s continue to work together!” said Gugun. (Ainur)
