Very clearly, even under the most trying conditions of war spread over 9 years meant to annihilate Islam, the Quran makes a clear distinction between the `kafir’ among the non-Muslims and others. There is not a single verse in the entire Quran that directs the Muslims to treat people of other faiths with anything other than kindness and justice. The war is only against the kafir among them for the exclusive kufr of:
- a) Those who fight the Muslims for their faith and drive them out of their homes.
- b) Those who break their treaties and fight or aid other enemies of the Muslims
There is no verse in the Quran that asks the Muslims to fight with the Kafir for any other form of kufr such as: Blasphemy, ridicule, rejecting faith etc.

Regardless of how a ‘kafir’ is supposed to be treated, it’s considered by many to be a deeply offensive word.
For AL, yes it is an offensive word for the extremely offensive work. A kafir is not any simple disbeliever in Islam. He/she is a fanatic person who punishes and fights the believers of other/ any faiths.
Any peaceful person of any faith is not a Kafir.
New Age Islam.com has rightly described a Kafir. The present day (or earlier) Muslims have not described the word Kafir in a better form. Kufr starts with denial. But a person becomes Kafir after becoming violent and war monger.
Quran has described that there are two types of Kafir even amongst the believers. Some are simple disbelievers who, after observing the truth of the divine messenger, they deny and reject him. They are under the curse of Allah and angels and mankind.
There are some other believers who increase in their Kufr (Enmity). Their apology (Taubah) will never be accepted. They are the most misguided persons.
In Pakistan, presently both kinds of Kafir are found nowadays.
The Mullas in Pakistan in 1953, could not correctly define the word “Muslim”. They did not know who was a Muslim.

The war monger and extremist has made the word Kafir as extremely offensive otherwise kufer and Ieman are two relative terms and there is nothing wrong as long as there is not a threat to the life of a person who is named as kafir. The Holy Quran says فمن یکفر بالطا غو ت و یئومنم باللہ فکدمسک۔۔۔ and who is kafir of Satan and the Momin of Allah, he has had strong hold…so the condition of Momin is that, he should be kafir of Satan.
kufer means denial, so even denial of Satan in the terminology is kufer also. Further as per Hadith, من ترک الصلی ۃ متعمدا فقد کفر Who do not offer nmaz or slat willingly, he become kafir, so denial of a single prophet of God make a person kafir, Kafir also mean ungrateful, so denial of any prophet of Allah is kufer, but it does not mean at all that we wage a war agaist every kafir to kill him, it is not permissible at all.
