Hamza Yusuf (born 1960)[6] is an American Islamic scholar,[3][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] and is co-founder of Zaytuna College.[14][15] He is a proponent of classical learning in Islam and has promoted Islamic sciences and classical teaching methodologies throughout the world.[16]
He is an advisor to the Center for Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.[17] He also serves as a member of the board of advisors of George Russell’s One Nation, a national philanthropic initiative that promotes pluralism and inclusion in America. In addition, he serves as vice-president for the Global Center for Guidance and Renewal, which was founded and is currently presided over by Abdallah bin Bayyah.[18][19]

He is one of the signatories[20] of A Common Word Between Us and You, an open letter by Islamic scholars to Christian leaders, calling for peace and understanding. The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom reported that “Hamza Yusuf is arguably the west’s most influential Islamic scholar.”[11] Similarly, The New Yorker magazine reported that Yusuf is “perhaps the most influential Islamic scholar in the Western world”.[21]

Everybody who claims to be a muslim is a muslim according to the Quran. Once he/she makes that claim, he/she is advised to allow faith to start finding space in his/her heart.
In 1974, Yahya Bakhtiar asked the 3rd khalifatul Massih: “what if a christian says that he is a muslim?”.
The 3rd khalifa answered that, that person is actually a christian because you just said so. After correcting his question, the 3rd khalifatul Massih said: “The exception proves the rule; it does not become the rule”.
The current discussion of extremism faced by the Muslim communities in the highly industrial and OPEN societies is being handled by so many knowledgeable Muslims in different ways.
The revolution which dawned in Qadian has spread and it is now ready for the real test.Jamaat Ahmadyya has claimed that it has purified the corrupt beliefs in Islam and had put forth a modern, realistic and rational interpretation of Islam. Now it is time to to put forth those solution to the World in this time of immense exchange of information.
You should condemn the Extremists/Terrorist but they have brought a subject for open discussion which once was a limited MUSLIM ONLY problem.
When Jama’at’s young people only bring the issue of persecution of Ahmadies in Pakistan, it seems that it a local issue about a particular community. It does not shake the real question of modern, and rational picture of Islam.The discussion has to be taken to the Next level where it could resonate with western society and open way of thinking. I am sure The Muslim Times will take lead on the issue.

Thank you very much Sh. Hamzah Yousaf for your kind remarks about declaration of Ahmadiyya Muslim as non Muslim for the sake of Constitution, as a political game of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Where as I agree with him that the state has no right to declare a group as a non Muslims, on the other still I disagree with him that any takfeer could be done even on an individual lavel, it is because the Holy Quran says, لکم دینکم ولی دین mean for you your religion and for me mine. If on individual level even takfeer is done we take away from the right of self conscience, whereas The Islam Stands for Self Conscience.
