Imam Maulana Ataul Mujeeb Rashid told the recent conference at the Bait-ul-Afiyat Mosque on Sussex Street that people of all faiths need to ‘unite’ together against religion being wrongly used as an excuse for violence acts.
He said: “The forced conversions and executions being carried out by ISIS is an inaccurate representation of Islam as it portrays violence. The need of the time is for all faiths and religions to unite together to ensure that any violent political and personal gains are not falsely portrayed in the name of religion.”
More than 50 guests, including Lord Mayor of Sheffield Peter Rippon and representatives of the Royal British Legion, attended the event. It was organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association to help commemorate the centenary of the start of World War I.
