TRIPOLI, Libya: A Libyan coast guard official says a boat carrying more than 100 migrants has capsized off the coast near the capital.

Abdel-Latif Mohammed said the coast guard found the damaged rubber boat early Sunday off the shores of al-Qarbouli, 50 kilometerseast of Tripoli. The coast guard has not yet confirmed the number of deaths but estimated the boat carried at least 100 people.

Last week at least 100 African migrants, including five children, drowned in the same area.

Libya has grown increasingly lawless since the 2011 overthrow of dictator Moammar Gadhafi, making it a migration hub for sub-Saharan Africans seeking a better life. Scores are killed every year on the dangerous journey to Europe.

  1. These tragedies are self inflicted and are completely avoidable. People should learn to stay in their countries and make the best out of it instead of thinking that there a land flowing with milk and honey just waiting for them. Some of these ‘migrants’ are sponsored jihadists who migrate to become fifth columnists in their host countries.

  2. There is lot of misery in the world. Libya used to be a rich country but since the “plant of democracy” was planted there by the “sympathetic” people of Namelee’s group, now misery rules. No one was fleeing Libya before but now it is hard to live there. Same is true for Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and many other Middle Eastern countries.
So instead of making disparaging remarks about the helpless and the desperate, Namelee should focus on teaching his own people to be compassionate. I believe that is what Jesus said!
