Dr. Juergen Todenhoefer reports from Gaza: “Stunned in Gaza”

Dr.t

Gaza, July 15. For three days I am with my son Frederic in Gaza. We will have to spend this night in Gaza t00. The borders are closed. The people here are expecting tonight particularly heavy attacks from Israel.

We visited victims families, climbed through bombed-out houses, walked through crowded hospitals. About us always the menacing whirr of Israeli combat drones.

In the evening we sit tight on the roof of our hotel and watch the ghostly “firefight” between Israel and Gaza. We see the brief flash of the rockets of Hamas’ and ‘Islamic Jihad’ and their long white smoke trail. Shortly after passing through the joints and marrow hiss an Israeli missile, followed by an ear deafening explosion. The earth trembles.

At three clock at night, our hotel is so low overflown by an Israeli missile that the hotel is shaking to its very foundations. As with an earthquake. We feel asleep on the corridors. Do we have to get out of the hotel? The missile destroyed a house 200 meters away from us. We go back to our rooms.

The present war, including its history is a shame. And it is absurd. Like most wars.

THE FIRST SHAME is the kidnapping and murder of the young Israeli settler Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frenkel. Whoever killed them cowardly. A spokesman for Hamas denied to me angry any involvement in this wretched murder. Hamas always confess to their deeds. With this madness they have nothing to do. Who is telling the truth?

THE SECOND SHAME is the combustion of the young Palestinian Mohammed Abu Khdeir alive. The Israeli perpetrators forced him to drink petrol and set it on fire.

THE THIRD SHAME is – according to indiscriminate and brutal house searches and mass arrests in the West Bank – in the completely unrestrained bombing of the 1.8 million inhabitants of the ghetto of Gaza. By Israeli fighter jets, rockets, helicopters, ships and drones. Result: 193 dead Palestinians (Last update: 18 clock Gaza time). Women, children. The bombardment is grossly recognizable for everyone.

True reason of this massive bomb terror is not the largely ineffective and amateurish shooting of Hamas and the ‘Islamic Jihad’. I also expressly condemn. It began after the killing of 6 Hamas fighters in Gaza and six Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

We have the fire into Israel from Gaza witnessed first hand. The Sirens of Jerusalem howled when approaching three bullets were discovered. Jewish Israelis ran pale to their hotels. Two minutes later we heard three explosions in the distance. The bullets were like most, without causing any damage, shattered the surrounding area.

Also in the Israeli Ashkelon, we experienced an attack from Gaza. An approximately one-meter Qassam missile had once again missed his target. Bent was there at a crossroads. Police secured from the scene of his crash landing.

Evening in Jerusalem was sitting at the table next to a small garden restaurants in the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He is reportedly still “peace officer” of the so-called Middle East Quartet. He laughed and laughed. About the largely ineffective missiles of Hamas and the ‘Islamic Jihad’? Or about the fact that Gaza is considered as an attacker in the world media? He had a very enjoyable evening.

The Gaza war is a battle of David against Goliath. Only that this David from the tiny Gaza’s rare. And is impossible to block. Previously, there was on the Israeli side a handful of injuries and fortunately no deaths. I mourn each of these Israeli casualties explicitly. Like every Palestinian deaths and injuries. All people are equal for me. Their suffering, their pain.

But to compare the meaningless Hamas artillery duel with the massive murderous rocket blows of the Israelis, is completely unrealistic. This can be seen, the previous numbers of fatalities: 193:0. Headlines like “Israel under heavy fire” put the facts on the head. Gaza is under heavy attack!

Netanyahu wants to bomb Hamas to its knees. Especially after she has teamed up with the moderate Fatah and has thus strengthened the Palestinian camp.

Netanyahu does not want a strong, unified Palestinian leadership. He wants weak, compliant, humiliated dialog partners such as Mahmoud Abbas that he can lead by the nose by the ring. Without that they defend themselves. Which he never has to make real concessions. Because a Netanyahu does not make concessions. The suffering of the Palestinians under the occupation of Israel has never been interested in him and will never be interested in him.

Netanyahu does not want peace with the Palestinians. Each leading U.S. politicians from Obama to Kerry would confirm resigned. Netanyahu wants especially no free and independent Palestine.

But Hamas wants peace? This question one must ask oneself seriously. Especially when one thinks of the old charter of Hamas. But was the surprising alliance with Fatah not just a signal that Hamas was willing to at least partially to wheel the more compliant, conciliatory course of Fatah. Why Netanyahu has this alliance fought so uncompromising?

The Israeli government policy towards the Palestinians is immeasurably not only since the current bombing of Gaza. This is not just my personal opinion. These are Israeli facts:

According to the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, with which we made phone calls on the weekend of the 2nd Intifada on 29 September 2000 killed 1,110 Israelis since the beginning until today. During the same period, the Israelis killed more than 7,000 Palestinians. Including over 1,500 children.

7000: 1,110. This should be self-defense?

Long I sat yesterday in the bloody hospital bed of annuals Ishmael. He was seriously wounded by an Israeli missile on the back of the head. Will he survive?

Then I was at the bedside of the 6-year-old Shaymaa. She was wounded in the abdomen, back and liver. Her mother and two of her brothers were killed. But they do not know.

And we were shattered before the bedside of the 9-year o,ld Maria. An Israeli missile splinter is still in her head. She has lost by what she has experienced the language.

When I think of Gaza, my heart bleeds. But the world takes almost everything out without objection. She admits that the truth will set about this war in almost grotesquely on the head. Also, that’s a shame.

Stunned from Gaza! Your JT

PS: The final of the football World Cup, we’ve been following along with Palestinian families in Gaza. For security reasons, we did not go in one of the many beach cafes. There were injured shortly before the start of the game between Argentina and Holland 9 young Palestinians were killed.15 by an Israeli missile. If that is not excessive warfare…
