April 9 may have started as a regular day at Franklin Regional Senior High School, but it ended in a most unexpected manner. Students stabbed — some of them seriously injured — when a 16-year-old sophomore attacked them with knifes. My heart goes out to the injured students.
On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Pittsburgh, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to all of the victims and their families and friends. I wish them a speedy recovery and pray they find courage to overcome this tragedy.
I would also like to commend the efforts of those individuals who tried to minimize the damage:
• The security guard, assistant principal and student who risked their lives apprehending the suspect.
• The brave girl who applied pressure on her friend’s wound.
• The doctors and staff of Forbes Regional Hospital and staff at the other medical facilities whose efforts no doubt saved lives.
These courageous acts remind me of a verse from the holy Quran, which states, “And who so gave life to one, it shall be as if he had given life to all mankind ( 5:33).”
I would request the authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of our students and to make sure that such incidents are avoided in the future.
