Minaret in the sign of the rainbow – Mahmud Mosque in Zurich, Switzerland,shines in new colors.

The beautiful colors of the Zurich Mahmud Mosque is not due to a nightly Halloween action. It wants to show a sign.

The Minaret of the first Mosque in Switzerland at the Forchstrasse in Zurich is showing itself off in violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are the colors of the peace flag, which is an international sign for peace. With this the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community wants to show a publicly visible sign for peace and for the start of the ‘Week of Religions’ from 2nd to 9th November.

The rainbow colors represents since the 60er years worldwide inter-cultural tolerance and a peaceful society free of conflicts. Also the motto of the Mahmud Mosque and the Ahmadiyya Muslims states: ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’. “We want to call during these times of conflict between religions to a dialogue and want to foster inter-cultural communication” the Imam of the mosque, Sadaqat Ahmed, stated in a press release.

The Week of Religions is a national event, where people from different religions can meet each other and exchange views. This year the topic of Youth is stressed, to which cantonal youth delegates and churches and inter-religious movements are offering different activities.
