Muslims from across Britain headed to Manchester on 30th June 2013 to participate in a 6.3 mile charity walk for peace. The walk was organised to raise money for local and national charities in Britain and some international charities. So far members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association have collected £131000 out of total promises of almost a quarter of a million pounds.
This year over 50 Charities in Britain have benefited so far from the money raised including Manchester Women’s Aid, Kidscan, Francis House, Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, East Lancs Hospice, Stockport Talking Newspaper Association, Mines Advisory Group, Royal London Society for Blind People, Donna’s Dream House Blackpool, British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support and many others.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Elaine Boyes stated prior to the walk:

I am delighted that Ahmadiyya Muslim Association’s annual Walk for Peace event which hopes to raise large amounts of money for local and national charities will take place in Manchester this year.

The event was attended by almost 2000 people from different walks of life as well as notable dignitaries such as The Deputy Lord Mayor of Manchester Susan Cooley, Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, MP Jake Berry, MP Kate Green and over 50 representatives of 23 charities.
The walk was inaugurated by the Deputy Lord Mayor who also attended the final ceremony. She said:

It is an honor and privilege that you have chosen Manchester for the Peace Walk this year. I think this is something that I have never ever seen before. Such a large large number of people all committed to one cause, all working for peace together in the city of Manchester which makes me personally very very proud.

In the final dinner ceremony, the cheque distribution session was followed by a key note address by the national president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Mr Rafiq Ahmad Hayat. A cheque of £4000 was presented to the Deputy Lord Mayor to be given to the Lord Mayor’s charity, We Love Manchester.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association is a vibrant community established since 1913 here in the UK. They have been organising these walks for the last 27 years up and down the country and since its inception in 1985, over 90 UK based charities have benefited from the event. The event was entirely organised by an army of volunteers with every penny being raised going to the respective charities.
