Christians happier than atheists – Study on Twitter
(CNN) – Christians tweet from the heart, atheists from the head, according to a new study.
The study conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign tapped Twitter as a research tool and compared the messages of Christians and atheists.
The conclusion: When they are limited to 140 characters or less, these researchers say, believers are happier than their counterparts.
Two doctoral students in social psychology and an adviser analyzed the casual language of nearly 2 million tweets from more than 16,000 active users to come up with their findings, which were published in Social Psychological and Personality Science.
The team identified subjects by finding Twitter users who followed the feeds of five prominent public figures. In the case of Christians, those select five were Pope Benedict XVI, Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, conservative political commentator Dinesh D’Souza and Joyce Meyer, an evangelical author and speaker.
In the case of atheists, the five followed feeds included Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Monica Salcedo and Michael Shermer – the latter two respectively being a self-described “fiercely outspoken atheist” blogger, and a science writer who founded The Skeptics Society.
With the help of a text analysis program, the researchers found that Christians tweet with higher frequency words reflecting positive emotions, social relationships and an intuitive style of thinking – the sort that’s gut-driven.
The Muslim Times’ Chief Editor’s response:
The findings noted in favor of Christians, can perhaps be extended to people of other faiths.
In my opinion, if you are a Muslim, you need not be boxed into ‘head’ or ‘heart,’ paradox, as in Islam one can find unification of ones ‘faith,’ and ‘reason.’
I have often argued that if Christians and atheists have a proper dialogue and actively listen to each other as well, rather than beating their own drums, they will arrive at Islam, as understood by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
You can find my line of argumentation in this post, which has a two hour debate between Theists and atheists:

A genuine Christianity and atheism dialogue leads to Islam

Dr. Shah!
Well and very truly said………….As an Ahmadi Muslim or true Muslim……we have both elements in one set……Love with reason……This is the essence of Islamic or Allah’s teachings……….
There is no pure but dry and powerless reasoning in Islam as Atheism promotes…..and just blind or irrational love which is fact is insanity or madness as it is Christianity/Paul-ism.
Islam believes in strong love with proven rationality.
When Rasool SAW started his message he started with reasoning but that reasoning or logic had strong footing in love and character and this caravan only goes with love once it has found his rational destination.
Nice article.
Richard Dawkins” tweet today:
I sent him this post of the Muslim Times in response.
I’m sorry, I just don’t see how that is true. Neither Christians nor atheist seek to fight nor cause any type of harm, whilst Muslims would likely cause harm in the name of Allah.
So, no matter how many conversations both believers and non-believers have, it will never result into a Muslim faith
