Sectarian killing: Ahmedi community member killed in targeted attack

ET: KARACHI:

A member of the Ahmedi community was shot dead while his son and another companion were injured in a targeted attack in Soldier Bazaar on Tuesday evening.

The victims were identified as Hamid Sami, 45, his son, Osama, 18, and a companion, Salman Zaman, 48. They were shot multiple times by unidentified men who escaped from the scene.

The police said Sami and Zaman were returning home. “A protest against load-shedding was being staged on MA Jinnah Road so they chose to take an alternative route,” DSP Zameer Abbasi told The Express Tribune. “Armed men on motorcycles, who had apparently been following the victims’ car, took advantage of the narrow streets and opened fire.” Police officials believe that the incident was a continuation of the targeted killings of Ahmedis. DSP Abbasi added Zaman was not an Ahmedi.

Separately, a Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi worker, Noman Iqbal, 33, was killed by unknown men in a targeted attack in Shah Faisal Colony.

  1. Alas! Another peaceful, law abiding gifted son of the soil of Karachi in the person of Hamid Sami has been put to calculated death by the killing gang for no other reason except that he was an ideal, most civilized, public spirited human being belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which is known and respected for its commitment to peace within and with out, through out the world. It is with deep feelings of anguish and tortured mind and soul that we, the Ahmadis of more than two hundred countries say Innalillaheywainna’alaheyrajeoon, we all belong to Allah Almighty and have to return to Him at the appointed moment. We pray that God may bless the departed soul and that the injured son and the non-Ahmadi companion may fully recover their health and live a long satisfied life according to the will of the Creator of us all. May the grieved members of the bereaved family be blessed and given by the Al-mighty God, the required strength, forbearance and ‘sabrejameel’ to enable all the left behind family members to adjust with this deeply soul-shattering target killing of the most harmless, innocent bread-earner head of the Karachi-based Ahmadi family. May God Almighty showers His blessings on all the members of the Jamaat-e-Masih-e-Muhammadi, all over the world and for all the time to come. Ameen.

  2. إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return
Let it be understood according to Chapter 2: Al-Baqarah البَقَرَة that:
    وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَن يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتٌ ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تَشْعُرُونَ
And say not of those who are killed in the cause of Allah that they are dead; nay, they are living; only you perceive not.
