Jail for woman inciting honor killing
A Turkish woman has had her appeal overturned by the Federal Court and will serve a jail term for attempting to incite an honor killing.
The appeal refers to a case heard in the High Court in Bern.
It relates to a Turkish woman whose daughter-in-law left her son when he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic for mental health problems and drug abuse.
The woman then called on her daughter-in-law’s father and brothers to “restore the honor of the family.”
Letters inferring the same were said to have been sent to neighbors and the leader of the local council.
Judges interpreted this as a demand that the young woman be put to death.
The High Court in Bern found the woman guilty of incitement and sentenced her to seven years in prison.
Her appeal has been rejected by the Federal Court.
