Today is the Pancasila Day in Indonesia

It’s Back to Basics on Pancasila Day

Firdaus Mubarik of the Indonesian Ahmadiyah Congregation (JAI) says this is particularly apparent in the ongoing persecution of the minority Islamic sect by conservative and hard-line Muslims.

The Jakarta Globe:

Ask Adika Djojosugito, a high-school student, what Pancasila means to him, and he gives a heartfelt answer about the fundamental spirit of the nation’s guiding principles.

“It’s the philosophy of Indonesia, the words of hope of our ancestors for what our nation should become,” he tells the Jakarta Globe.
“By upholding the values of Pancasila, I can ensure that everything I do is in pursuit of a better Indonesia.”
Since 1945, Pancasila Day has been observed each June 1 to commemorate the day Sukarno delivered the first draft of the nation’s founding philosophy..

Indonesia celebrates Pancasila Day on June 1.

While the anniversary has typically been marked with lofty speeches by state officials about the enduring strength and relevance of the five principles first posited by Muhammad Yamin on May 29, 1945, the event has in recent years been darkened by the pall of a rising number of cases in which those very principles are not just being ignored, but blatantly flouted.

Firdaus Mubarik of the Indonesian Ahmadiyah Congregation (JAI) says this is particularly apparent in the ongoing persecution of the minority Islamic sect by conservative and hard-line Muslims.
