Parental guidance is the key

A $50 tattooed doll – a new product of a hugely successful toy brand in the US – has come under fire. Invoking writer Stieg Larrson’s best-selling Millennium trilogy’s edgy female heroine image, this limited edition toy has alarmed parents in America, who feel the tattoos may inspire impressionable youngsters to scar their bodies. Such toys, they argue, offer the wrong role model for those far too young to make informed choices – in this case, about body art. The controversy, however, may be unwarranted. The toy in question is only meant for adult collectors. Not to be sold in stores, it`s been kept out of children`s reach.
