KUALA LUMPUR:The Election Commission has been tasked with drawing up a framework for the parliamentary select committee on electoral reforms to be sent to the cabinet on Sept 7.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said the framework, raised by “legal non-governmental organisations”, would form the backbone of the committee.
It will address eight areas, including political parties’ access to the media, postal and advanced voting, the campaigning period and “dirty” political tactics.

Others are ways to strengthen the EC, eradicating unethical practices during the campaigning period and polling day, clean-up of the electoral roll and usage of either indelible ink or the biometric system in voting.
“Based on this, EC has to come up with a memorandum to be submitted to the cabinet on Sept 7,” Nazri said at Parliament after meeting representatives from EC, Dewan Rakyat and the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the setting up of the committee last week.
