Introducing the event, the National President of Ahmadiyya Community, Canada, Mr Lal Khan Malik said:

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat at Canada is holding its 35th Annual Convention at the International centre (6900 Airport Road Mississauga, ON L4V 1E8) on 1st, 2nd and 3rd July 2011.”

Giving the history of the Annual Ahmadiyya Conventions he said:

“The community was established in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), India. He claimed to be the Promised Messiah and the Reformer of the latter days. The first Annual Convention was held in Qadian in 1891 with 75 members in attendance. Now the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community with a membership of tens of millions holds Annual Conventions all around the world.”

Regarding Ahmadiyya Community perspective on various contemporary issues he said:

“The community promotes the real meaning of Islam; Peace and Harmony in the society and in the world at large. Practicing the teachings of Islam, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat categorically rejects all sorts of Radicalism and Extremism. Ahmad (as) emphatically declared that the aggressive Jihad with the sword” has no place in Islam. He taught his followers to wage an intellectual Jihad with pen to defend Islam. The community continue to spread Ahmad’s (as) teachings of moderation and restraint. “LOVE FOR ALL AND HATERD FOR NONE” is our motto. The loyalty to the home country is part of our faith”.

Talking about the purpose of Annual Convention, The National President said:

“The Annual Convention is always honoured with the presence of dignitaries which includes intelligentsias, politicians, writers and members of various communities of North America. The highly intellectual and socio- spiritual event brings communities closer, improves their mutual understanding and enhances their knowledge of true Islam and Ahmadiyyat”.

The convention would also include an address by the National President of the community as well as other prominent scholars. Likewise guests from the Federal and Provincial Parliaments and Local Governments as well as other community leaders will also be speaking.

The Canada Convention is attended by around 18000 people however the attendance sharply increases if the Head of the Community also graces the occasion.

He particularly mentioned about the third day of the Convention which is of specific interest to everyone because of three presentations regarding popular issues of the day. These include Blasphemy and its misuse, Islam and the West and the Interfaith Harmony.

The President answered questions from the Media community. The session concluded with silent prayer followed by a photo session and dinner.
