MAKKAH: The number of holy water distribution outlets at the King Abdullah Zamzam Water Purification Project in Kudai will be increased to 42.
The increase is part of the new development projects and modifications, set to be launched shortly, Al-Madinah daily reported quoting well-informed sources.
At present, there are 20 manual outlets for distribution of the holy water. These will be replaced by automatic ones and increased to 42 as part of measures to ease the heavy rush of Umrah pilgrims and visitors to Islam’s holiest shrine to collect the Zamzam water.
The number of escalators for the movement of Zamzam containers from the bottling plant to the distribution center will also be increased. A coin will be used to collect the holy water. The consumer needs to insert the coin in a machine to get the 10-liter Zamzam container automatically. There will be a limit of 10 containers of the holy water per customer per day. The containers cost SR5 each, according to the sources.
The picture here is from years past. Here is a short description of the Zamzam well from wikipedia:
The Well of Zamzam (or the Zamzam Well, or just Zamzam; Arabic: ?????) is a well located within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, 20 m (66 ft) east of the Kaaba,[1] the holiest place in Islam. According to Islamic belief, it was a miraculously-generated source of water from God, which began thousands of years ago when Abraham‘s (Ibr?h?m) infant son Ishmael (?Ism???l) was thirsty and kept crying for water and was kicking at the ground when water gushed out. Millions of pilgrims visit the well each year while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages, in order to drink its water.
Many Muslims also consider the Zamzam well a contemporary miracle, never having gone dry despite the millions of liters of water consumed every year.
