Speakers at a meeting organised by The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Kolkata urged parents to educate their children about the do’s and don’ts that need to be followed on social media.

The meeting was held in a hotel in Central Kolkata on Saturday evening.

Referring to the recent post on Facebook that led to violence in Basirhat, Shahanshah Mirza, a well known human right activist said that the parents should teach their children about the do’s and don’ts which need to be followed on social media.

He regretted that even adults “often behave irrationally” and without understanding the consequences of messages that come on WhatsApp they forward it.

“Believe me. I spend 15 minutes to half-an-hour everyday deleting messages on WhatsApp. Many of those messages are derogatory and can hurt the sentiments of others. This needs to be stopped and parents and elders should have a bigger role to play in creating awareness among their children.”
