Two teenagers have been arrested in New York City for allegedly breaking into the Indonesian consulate and stealing clothing and booze before making off with a diplomatic vehicle. Police say 18-year-old David Rivera and a 16-year-old girl who has not been identified face charges of burglary, grand larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property over the incident. The pair is accused of entering the consulate through an unlocked door at around 1 a.m. Monday, then ransacking the place and taking electronics, a suitcase full of clothes, and alcohol, before stealing a van. Consulate employees only became aware of the robbery on Monday morning, when Consulate General Benny Siahaan noticed a vehicle used for diplomatic business was missing. “We asked our staff. Nobody took it, nobody used it,” Siahaan said. “So then we were sure somebody took it.” Surveillance footage is said to have revealed the culprits, and the pair were arrested after returning to a hotel they had allegedly earlier burglarized.
