RIYADH: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), also known as the UN Refugee Agency, commended the Kingdom for taking care of and supporting Syrians refugees living in Jordan and Lebanon.
Paul Stromberg, deputy representative of UNHCR in Jordan, expressed his sincere thanks to the Saudi National Campaign for Syrian Refugees and appreciated the Kingdom for making comprehensive efforts to provide essentials like food, medicine and winter clothes to them.
“UNHCR appreciates this great help provided by the Saudi campaign through its various programs to improve the living conditions of the refugees,” he said.
Stromberg made the remark on Monday during an interaction with a Saudi media delegation in Amman, a Saudi National Campaign official said on Wednesday.
Applauding the Saudi National Campaign for helping distressed Syrians taking refuge in Jordan and Lebanon, the senior UN official also referred to the Al-Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan, in particular, for the essential services it is providing to the camp.
Notably, the Kingdom has set up 13 specialized clinics, a psychiatric unit, laboratory, an X-ray department and a pharmacy in Al-Zaatari camp to provide medical assistance.
Besides offering treatment for medical emergencies and for communicable and non-communicable diseases at these clinics, doctors have also handled a number of psychiatric patients who were badly affected by the conditions that drove them to become refugees.
Moreover, the Saudi National Campaign also stepped up its support campaign when the cold spell hit the Middle East this winter, and provided warm clothing and heating supplies to offer refugees in these areas much needed relief.
Earlier, the Saudi National Campaign also distributed dry food packets and dates to the displaced families and the campaign has had a significant impact on improving the living conditions of Syrian refugees in the camps in these two countries through comprehensive efforts.
The Saudi media delegation was on a study trip to the Syrian refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.
The delegation also paid an inspection visit to Lebanon on Tuesday and went to refugee centers distributing aid to displaced Syrians, including the one at the Barja area in Kharoob province, and Jabal camp, where winter clothing and aid was provided by the Saudi National Campaign.
