Nov. 13, the Islamic State terrorist group, also known as ISIS, killed 130 innocent civilians in horrific attacks in Paris. President Francois Hollande of France called it “an act of war” and committed to “destroy ISIS.”

Expressing solidarity with France, President Barack Obama said, “It is an attack on the civilized world.”

The Paris attack was just one of many of ISIS’s attempts to instill fear in the heart of the civilized world and to strip off its precious values of freedom, equality and justice. Yielding on any single one of these principles will bolster ISIS.

ISIS hates to see universal freedom prevail in the civilized world, where all human beings have an opportunity to honorably live the lifestyle they choose regardless of their color or creed. Adding an extra test of race or religion to guarantee that freedom will only make ISIS more successful than it already was with the Paris killings.

After the Paris massacre, the civilized world overwhelmingly outpoured its emotions, expressing solidarity with France. But it failed to show similar response to other such attacks, including the Beirut killings just a day before the Paris attacks, the downing of a Russian plane two weeks prior to that and last month’s twin bombing in Ankara.

When the civilized world values some lives more than others, it creates political and religious polarization, which feeds ISIS’s ideology of hatred and bigotry.

ISIS has no identity except barbarism, even though it hides behind religion to legitimize its inhuman actions. Sadly, many from the civilized world continue to associate ISIS with religion, arguing that ISIS claims to commit terrorism in the name of Islam. How could the witness of a bunch of criminals be so credible? Justice demands that the civilized world view Islam through the actions of millions of peaceful Muslims like the security guard who stopped ISIS’s suicide bomber from entering the Paris stadium, saving thousands of lives, or like the restaurant employee who saved the lives of two women by endangering his own during the Paris massacre.

Indeed, ISIS has waged a war against the civilized world with its full power of hatred and bigotry. The only way the civilized world can win this war is by not letting ISIS dent its resolve to stand firm with its long-cherished values of freedom, equality and justice — regardless of how hard the blow is.

  1. FROM MY VIEW; Terrorist like IS, Taliban, Al Qaida etc are following the ancient interpretation of Islam and follow the book of Hadith blindly.

    For example;
Apostates, Blasphemy, Gay-lesbian and infidel should be punished and killed, beheading, stoning, cut off hand or leg at front of public.

Google; How to follow the sunnah Rasulullah rightly in 21st Century.

If we follow the sunnah rightly, Musiims can show the peaceful and modern religion. If we still follow the ancient Islamic teaching without modern knowledge, Muslim still live in the stone ages.

    With all my love

  2. @namelee—Allah and prophet Muhammad (pbuh) have allowed His followers to reform or to modernize His laws as Allah and Prophet said ;

Modern Interpretation; The progressive scholars or clerics think is that the rule of Allah that is related to Allah, cannot be changed forever, such as; shalah, fasting, the hajj and direction. But the rule of Allah that is related to worldly affairs such as; the system of government, trading, human relationship, dress code, inheritance, etc. can be reformed or corrected. Allah’s revelation was revealed at what ever time He saw fit.

Do Muslims have to follow the revelation of GOD and the Sunnah of the Prophet (Pbuh) which is written in the Quran and Hadits according to the ancient interpretation during the dark age? My answer is NO.

    For Example;
Do Muslims have to build/construct a tent made out of animal skin to follow the footstep of Prophet Muhammad(saw) ? As described QS 16:81.

Muhammad(saw) had a long beard and wore long robe and turban.

Muhammad(saw) used to brush his teeth with a root from a tree branch. Do muslims have to utilize the same root despite of the fact that we today have toothpaste and toothbrush?

Do Muslim men have to follow Prophet Muhammad (saw) to have more than one wife and some women slave?

Do Muslims have to follow how to cleanse the skin that is touched by a dog’s saliva with soil seven times despite of the soap and sanitizer that are available now?

Do Muslims, who passed on, have to be buried on the same day? Can’t Muslims be put in a coffin for few days ?

Do women have to cover her whole body with a loose dress now to protect herself from men and extreme weather?
Do women have to go outside always accompanied by her father, brother or husband?

Today, there are less conflict and people are more civilized in many developed countries. In those countries, women are much safer to go out on her own. Many of the countries are not surrounded by deserts with extreme heat like often found in the Middle East therefore, covering the entire body is not necessary.

Do Muslim have to hate those who do not follow prophet Muhammad (saw) ?

Do Muslim have to kill innocent people who are gay, who is blasphemy, apostasy, heresy and magic?

Today’s life has been greatly affected and influenced by science and technology.

I bet, you do not want to follow the sunnah of prophet Muhammad (saw) that is from the dark age. Prophet Muhammad (saw) would be happy and proud to see his followers live a much better life than him.

Every parent in this world wants their children’s life to be better than theirs, right?

Can we alter the sunnah with appropriate way, according the development of science and culture?

I strongly believe that the rule or the law of Allah in regards to worldly life or dunya for human (hablul minannaas) can be reformed or corrected.

But the rule of Allah in regards to Allah (hablul minnallah) can not be changed, such as shalah, fasting, zakat(charity), Hajj and direction of Kakbaah.

Allah said in the Quran that all Allah’s laws related to worldly affairs can be fixed, reformed according to these verses below; YES.

It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them. Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted they would have broken away from about thee; so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah’s) forgiveness for them; and consult them (Jews,Christian etc ) in affairs (of world). Then when thou hast taken a decision, put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him). (QS 3; 159).

Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular prayer; who (conduct) their affairs (Jews,Christian, others ) by mutual Consultation; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance; (38) And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) help and defend themselves. QS 42; 38-39.

Do not follow the majority when they do wrong or when they give testimony that prevents justice. Do not show partiality to a poor man at this trial.(exodus.23;2)

Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves (with their own soul) . QS .13:11.

And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have Knowledge. QS 29; (43)

If you refuse to learn, you are hurting yourself. If you accept correction, you will become wiser. Proverb.

Based on Allah and prophet say above, so Islamic teaching can be reformed, otherwise Muslim can live in peace and harmony with other religions.

    Wassalamu’alaikum wrwb
    with love

  3. @ Namelee—
Unfortunately, Terrorist, and their supporters do not want to reform the ancient Islamic laws and the sunnah Rasulullah (pbuh) until the end of world—-

    Wassalam

  4. To that extent, ISIS has an identity. Without reform, muslims find it difficult to ‘live in peace and harmony with all religions’.

  5. Ali hidaya, you reacted to my earlier post which has been deleted. Yet you talk of reform and tolerance. How can those happen when the people who should know better and champion the cause are as guilty as the terrorists?

  6. @ Namelee. I strongly believe that ONE WORD can change the world or people’s faith IF GOD’s wills.

Our duty is to convey God’s word (verses) to people, or speak up loudly the truth , and then let God does His job.

    With love

  7. The trouble is that according to the quran, allah does not want everybody to be saved or succeed.
In what direction will this one word change the world?

  8. Namelee—-Allah do want His people to saved and enter paradise——but Allah knows that not all people obey Allah’s laws—-

Allah says in Bible and Al Quran; Those who follow Me rightly and completely will enter His paradise for sure.

Those who follow evil, will enter Hell.

That Allah’s law, we should understand it.
    With love

  9. Allah does not say anything in the Bible. It does that in the quran where it urges believers to earn paradise by killing and being killed.

  10. @Namelee—As we know that Allah sent down Taurat,Zabur,Injil and Al Quran.

Islam is submission to Allah. It means peace.
Islam is stand for; Islam Shall Love All People.
Islam also is stand for; Islam Society for Liberty and Modernity.
Islam is monotheism or Tauhid founded by Prophet Abraham.
Islamic teaching’s sources are from Taurat, Zabur, Injil, Al Quran, or
The Old Testament, The New Testament and The Final Testament.

The new Testament is fulfilled the old testament—Al Quran is also to fulfilled the Taurat and injil.

So al Quran is the Last Testament from God.

God says in Al Quran, or New law from God,those who defended his prophet Muhammad (pbuh)from enemy who wanted to kill Prophet will enter paradise.

This law does not say in Bible.
    With love

  11. Allah did not send down the Bible. It granted paradise to those who defended its prophet but sent those he wantonly killed to hell. The God I know has nothing to do with the quran.
Which of the 68 wars Muhammad instigated in the last 10 years of his life was defensive? Was it Badr or Mustaquil or the Jewish communities of Medina?
