Salma Hayek’s new animated film, “Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet,” which she produced and voice-acted in, is based on the famous Lebanese poet’s book of philosophy and verse. The film manifests into eight vignettes, landing on themes like death, love, children, eating and drinking. Hayek dropped by HuffPost Live on Thursday to discuss how the all-inclusive nature of the film — and the book from which it draws its inspiration — has important messages for young people.
“The book has sold more than 120 million copies around the world. It’s never been out of print, and it has brought together all religions. I think it’s nice to remember that it was an Arab man who wrote a philosophy book that brings all religions together,” Hayek told Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. “But I think it’s also great to create content for young people, for the whole family, that makes them think as individuals. And this is what the film promotes.”
