A Progressive Conservative leadership hopeful is facing accusations of homophobia after criticizing Premier Kathleen Wynne’s revamped sex-education curriculum.
As about 300 social conservatives loudly protested Ontario’s new health syllabus outside the legislature Tuesday, the debate raged inside.
MPP Monte McNaughton (Lambton-Kent-Essex) attacked Wynne for not doing enough to consult parents before implementing a teaching plan that takes effect in September.
The premier, who is openly gay, suggested McNaughton was being homophobic when he told reporters Monday “it’s not the premier of Ontario’s job — especially Kathleen Wynne — to tell parents what is age-appropriate for their children.”
