A Wakefield TV station is now among some of the country’s renowned media outlets after winning an award.
British Muslim TV saw off the likes of Channel 4 and The Huffington Post to claim the Responsible Media of the Year title at the British Muslim Awards last week.
The 24-hour satellite TV station is based in Victoria Chambers on Wood Street. The non-sectarian channel launched in June 2014. It broadcasts on the Sky platform and online.
Editor-in-chief Aamer Naeem said: “We are all delighted to be honoured in this way and it’s great to see the station acknowledged for all the hard work that’s been put in over the last year.
“To be recognised for our service to British Muslims after less than a year of broadcasting demonstrates we’ve won the hearts and minds of viewers through our commitment and passion for professional programming.
“Showcasing the best of British and the best of Muslim, and helping to shape the narrative for British Muslims to feel confidently Muslim and comfortably British.”
The award, reserved for the media outlet that best presents balanced coverage, was handed to Mr Naeem and presenter Ahmad Bostan at a special ceremony in the West Midlands. British Muslim TV is on Sky channel 845.
