We Pakistanis are a very caring nation and constantly worry for the plight of others– the Muslims in India (Kashmir), the Muslims in Palestine, etc are always on our thoughts and very visible on our Facebook walls too. We don’t care for the ill-treated Muslims in China though. That could be perhaps because China is Pakistan’s “friend” and friends should always overlook each other’s faults.
We feel for the Muslims being treated savagely by ISIS but not the ones in Saudi Arabia. We indeed are good friends.
However, when it comes to our own backyard, we tend to see things a little differently. We have to first determine the worth and value of the person. If the person was in fact a Muslim and if he was, was he a bad Muslim or a good one, and most importantly, did he belong to the right sect?
Ahmadis are a No-Never-Ever-Go area. By law, they are not allowed to call themselves Muslims, which means that you should not speak up for them no matter what. They are the wrong type of Muslims or rather ‘not Muslims’ so any savage act and/or persecution against them is not – and should not be – condemned.
What more proof do you want when Pakistan’s First Nobel Prize winner Abdus Salam is virtually a nobody because he was an Ahmadi? While other countries celebrate the life and work of such people, his birthday (29th January) came and went without any recognition.
He has a route named after him in Switzerland.In Pakistan he has a defaced epitaph.
