KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin of the group called G25 has defended her recent slight of the Ahmadiyya community, saying the group and her might face censure from religious authorities if they lent their support.

The former ambassador said the G25 has already been accused by some for “insulting Islam” simply for stating the supremacy of the Federal Constitution, and therefore she did not wish to dabble in matters of faith.

“If I or the G25 were to champion the cause of the Ahmadi community of whom I know very little, we would probably be declared deviant by Jakim and the other Islamic authorities,” Noor Farida told Malay Mail Online in a text message yesterday.

“I’m sorry but the Ahmadis will have to resolve this issue with Jakim and Jais and the other Islamic authorities in the other states without involving us,” she said, referring to both the federal and Selangor Islamic authorities by their acronyms.
