A leader of the Pakistani Christians in the United States has condemned the killing Saturday of an Ahmadi man and called upon the government of Pakistan to annul the second amendment in the the 1973 constitution which had declared the minority Ahmadis as non-Muslims in Pakistan. “The killing of Luqman Ahmad Shehzad followed a highly insensitive talk against Ahmadis by Syed Arif Shah Owaisi during TV show host Amir Liaquat Hussain,” Nazir S. Bhatti, president of Pakistan Christian Congress told the Baltimore Examiner Sunday evening. “Hussain must be put on a watch list and denied visa to travel to the U.S. and European Union nations,” Dr Bhatti demanded. According to Reuters, Shehzad was shot in the back of the head near Bhiri Shah Rehman village, a small community of Ahmadis in the Gujranwala district, said Saleem ud Din, the spokesman. He is the eleventh person killed for being Ahmadi in Pakistan this year. Prominent DC-based newsman Anwar Iqbal in a post on Facebook also accused Amir Liaquat Hussain for inciting the killing.

“Pakistan has become a graveyard for religious minorities,” Bhatti lamented, adding, “Just last month a young Christian couple, Shehzad Masih and Shama Masih, was burned alive in Kasur,”Pakistan is ranked as one of the worst countries for religious minorities with Christians, Ahmadis and Hindus living in a state of perpetual fear and persecution. The second amendment in the Pakistan constitution in 1974 was made by the populist prime minister, Z.A. Bhutto, whose government was overthrown by an Islamist general also called monkey general, Gen Ziaul Haq. Bhutto was later hanged. His three offspring twice-premier Benazir Bhutto and sons Murtaza Bhutto and Shanawaz Bhutto all died unnatural, early deaths. “This was bad karma for declaring Ahmadis non-Muslims,” said an Ahmadi man, who now lives in Virginia and spoke on condition he was not named.
