12 Killed in a Gun Attack in Paris and the Muslim Times’ Response

Epigraph:

We (Allah) prescribed for the children of Israel that whosoever killed a person — unless it be for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land — it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and whoso gave life to one, it shall be as if he had given life to all mankind. And Our Messengers came to them with clear Signs, yet even after that, many of them commit excesses in the land. (Al Quran 5:33)

  1. It looks like a jostling match between two extremes. They poke, sometimes insensitive, fun at what they see presented as Islam and it irritates some Muslims. As there is no way Muslims can stop Charlie Hebdo some of them resort to violence.
The particularly insensitive act on Charlie Hebdo part was publishing a cartoon of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
I think there should be a uniform policy against publication of material that hurts religious feelings. Freedom of speech is all very well but with freedom should come responsible behavior or laws to ensure responsible behavior

  2. There may be an urge to “round up the usual suspects” in response to this attack on the magazine. But let’s not jump to conclusions, for there may be other folks who are sensitive to poking fun at their religion. For instance Jews are often unhappy about anti-Semitic jokes. Recently Jerusalem post ran an article on cartoons and stories that had anti-Semitic content: http://www.jpost.com/Not-Just-News/Kids-cartoons-and-animals-Top-5-most-bizarre-anti-Semitic-videos-386796
So with Charlie Hebdo “outreach” there could be zealots of several religions that may want to get even with the magazine, at the cost of “infamous Muslims”

  3. @Muhammad Zafrullah

In that case, you don’t believe in freedom of speech and expression. And who decides what is offensive or insulting anyway? Many religious people hold and express views others find offensive, does that mean they shouldn’t be free to express and practice their religion? – Of course it doesn’t. That’s life.

If you don’t like something, don’t watch it, read it, look at it. Why should a cartoon or an article or a film affect an individual’s relationship with their God? Ignore it, but don’t expect others who don’t share your faith or view to hold it in the same esteem as you do. Why should religion be treated as a special case when it comes to offence, which is entirely subjective?

The human life is sacred and sabotage can not be permitted on any cause how much sacred it may be, As Allah says in the Holy Quran, “لا تفسدو فی العرض ، واللہ لا یحب الفساد” Do not create disorder in the earth and Allah does not love disorder. The act of sabotage is condemn able where ever or for whatever reason it may be.
That was one aspect of the matter, on the other aspect, we the Muslims love our Holy Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) more than any other object and have very strong emotional attachment with him any act of disgrace to him is totally unacceptable, so we strongly condemn the publishing of any cartoon. Although there is absolutely no punishment for blasphemy in Islam, its origin, however is in the Bible, but Allah does not like disgrace for his beloveds and He has taken to Himself to punish blasphemers hereafter to burn them in hell fire. The people in the World should also give due consideration for the love and emotional attachment of Muslims.
Abu-Baker-Baghdadi is Muslim just in name, his acts are not Islamic at all, nor any part in his possession is ‘Islamic State’ at all, he and his followers are terrorist and their objective is to Rule the Globe, by fair or fowl means and to create disorder and blood shed in the world. To name their possession ‘Islamic State’ is disgrace to Islam. We must not use the terminology of Islamic State of Iraq in our writings, because it wound amount to defame the beautiful face of Islam. Islam mean peace and submission to the will of Allah, as mentioned above, Allah dose not like/love fasad/disorder in the earth, so so called Islamic State of Iraq is not doing the will of Allah nor they are peaceful or peace loving. As per Hadith The Khilafat that would be established in the Latter Days in the Ummah willbe, “علی منہاج نبوۃ” On the path or patron of Nabwwah Prophethood and as per Holy Quran Surah Noor, The Mohammad (S.A.W.H.W.) However the subordinate prophet or Zilli or Majazi Nabi may come in the Ummah, So Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam-e-Ahmad (A.S.) is that Iesa-bin-Meryam (A.S.) and the Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya is the True Khilafat Established by Allah. If absolutely no prophet is coming in Ummah, how could be Khilafat established on the pretext of Nabuwwah, as per Hadith.

  5. You’d better get used to the Mohammad cartoons, or move out of Europe. There is no middle ground.

We don’t want your Muhammad Zafrullahs’ here. Go back to the Middle East or wherever else you came from…

    @ Petros Houhoulis
I always welcome people from other faiths on The Muslim Times Forum and respect their opinion and speak with them softly and with logic, but not with a person like your caliber as there is an Urdu phrase:-
لا توں کے بھوت باتوں سے نہیں مانتے: Means ghosts meant for the Rod (punishment) won’t listen to your tong. What sheer a nonsense you are talking about, what you want to draw out of the cartoons save the disorder in the World, what right you have to tell your fellow citizens to leave their homeland. Its just like we publish filthy cartoons of your mother and then say, you better used to see them or leave Europe, will it acceptable for you. You should realize that we Muslims love and respect Holy Prophet Mohammad(pbuh) more than our fathers and mothers. The real world peace depends upon to follow the Role Model of this the King of Peace, who never ever punished the blasphemer or took any revenge and pardoned to all blood thirsty enemies on the Glorious Victory.
We will keep patience for your deeds and even will not incite violence or favor it, but our God (Allah) is a very Jealous God as per Holy Bible, His jealousy for His beloveds is beyond our comprehension, He has taken upon Himself to avenge rebellions in this very world and herein after burning in hell for uncertain period of time. Are you Ready for that???

  7. Victimized Twice:
I would like to commend Globe and Mail, CBC, the Star, CNN, New York Times and all the other news agencies that rose above the natural instinct, demonstrating true virtue and decided not to reproduce Charlie Hebdo cartoons.
As a Muslim living in Canada you cannot imagine how much it hurts to see the name of religion Islam ridiculed by those terrorists who know nothing of Islam. The latest example being that of the attack on Charlie Hebdo offices. The holy Prophet of Islam was ridiculed during his own lifetime and there are two key events every Muslim grandmother and mother tell their grandchildren and children and almost every Muslim knows it by heart. It seems those terrorists knew nothing about these events. I would like to share these here for the benefit of all.
First event is about an old lady who used to gather all the garbage of the house and wait for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to pass by his house on his way to the mosque and would through that garbage on him to ridicule him for his preaching of his faith. None of his followers stormed the woman’s house with swords and chopped her into pieces. They all knew about it. Once it so happened that Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) passed by her house and she did not through the garbage on him. The prophet got worried and enquired about her and found out that she was sick. He went to her house to enquire about her health and offered his help and continued to help her till she fully recovered. She was so impressed with this that she converted to Islam.
Second event relates to a Jew named Zayd bin Sana’a, who had lent some money to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Before the term of the loan had expired, he came and demanded immediate return of the loan. Tugging at the mantle around the Prophet’s shoulders, he jibed that the progeny of ‘Abd Al-Muttalib were always defaulters. A companion of the prophet Umar (may God be pleased with him) berated him and was at the point of beating him that Holy Prophet interrupted him and said we expected better treatment from you and asked him to pay Zayd his money back and add more to the payment because of the treatment Jew received at the hands of Umar (ra). This impressed Zayd and he also converted to Islam saying I had seen all the signs of prophethood in you and wanted to test your patience.
In my childhood my parent used to warn me, “Tip of tongue is sharper than the edge of sword, a wound inflicted with sword can heal but the one inflicted with tongue does not heal.” Well in today’s society where free expression and freedom of speech is encourage we sometimes forget the fact that such freedom comes with a great responsibility, as they say your freedom stops where my nose starts. Being able to control oneself is a true virtue. When I was raged and angered at something, my parents also used to tell me, “When you walk down the streets and a dog barks at you, do you ever feel like barking back at the dog? You know better, but the dog does not, similarly there are some among humans who stoop to animal behaviour, just to rage you why would you want to stoop to their level and animal behaviour?
Millions of Muslims like me around the world are already hurt to the extreme by the hijacking of their religion at the hands of a handful of terrorists, why would one choose to victimise them a second time by publishing those hurtful cartoons?
