The events that took place on Oct. 22, on Parliament Hill are another example of why we must educate the world about the true Islam in order to eliminate terrorism all together.

 Unfortunately, we see the loss of innocent human lives happening daily by people who claim to be Muslim. However, these Muslims are unable to practice some of the most powerful commandments of Islam.

The Qur’an promotes peace. The Holy Prophet promoted peace.

Hence, murder in the name of Islam is the complete opposite of what we Muslims have been taught. This is why, in order to see the beauty of Islam, we mustn’t rely on people and media alone.

Upon hearing the horrific news of the shooting that took place in Ottawa on Parliament Hill, I immediately searched news sites to gain more information on what had happened. I was saddened to hear that this murder was a result of the actions of a recent convert to Islam. An individual who was unable to practice the true teachings of Islam, was bringing down all Muslims in the eyes of the nation.

It is through events such as the presentation of ‘Muhammad: The Astonishing Story of the Prophet’ in several provinces and cities, that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is showcasing the true Islam.

I, as well as the rest of the Community, condemn all acts of terrorism. We mourn the loss of honorable Cpt. Nathan Cirillo who lost his life as a result of this cowardly act of terrorism. All of Canada has lost a hero who risked his life to fight for the freedom and rights that we have today.

In the words of Prophet Muhammad, “Loyalty to ones country is part of faith.” Our prayers are with his friends and family. Unfortunately, many individuals don’t realize that there is absolutely no room for violence in Islam.

Committing such acts of terrorism is not Islam, rather Islam is just an excuse for those who have the mindset of a criminal. Gaining knowledge is key to understanding the true teachings Islam. Which is why, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community invites you to visit our mosques, and come to our events, so that you are able to see these teachings being put into practice.

As a Muslim, I will not allow the actions of those who commit murder in the name of Islam, to represent my religion.
