According to their assessment this also raises the risk that the Pakistani Taliban, even if it cannot seize the commanding heights of state institutions, could seize either by force or through infiltration a nuclear warhead at an individual installation and use it to hold the country — and the world — to ransom. American intelligence analysts covering Pakistan will continue to lose sleep for a long time to come. How can someone hold individual installation without knowing its exact deployment?
Presently there are 16300 nuclear weapons in the world, US has 8000 followed by Russia 7300, Pakistan 120 and India 110. How can smaller nations even conceive of attacking US? On 19th Nov 2007 W.Kagan a scholar at the American Express institute and Michel O’Hanlon a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute had expressed fears that once Musharraf regime collapses this vacuum will be filled by extreme Islamist movement and both suggested that a special forces operation could be carried out with limited goal of preventing Pakistan’s nuclear materials and warheads form falling in wrong hands. The second option suggested that supporting Pakistan against Taliban and Al-Qaida attempts working against the leadership and this would require sizable combat force not only from US but from other western powers and moderate Muslim nations. The assessment proved wrong as once Musharraf left it was the moderate forces that won the election and extremist Islamist groups were defeated. In fact it is baseless propaganda against Pakistan’s nuclear assets with ulterior motives. Ever since we started the programme US and west is after us but we continued with the completion of the programme irrespective of the change of governments.
One thing the writer forgot. The Muslims all over the globe are in trouble. Every where Muslims fighting with each other. Current scenario indicates each Muslim worldy leader has a price to bow its head to US and its allies. Allegation to Mr AQ for selling the nuke technology supports this view point. With in Pak armed forces untrustworthy element prevails. Attacks on many defence installation are proof of it. So one can not take lightly the fear of US or West about Pakistan. May be with passage of time country improves its image and then this gossip fizzles out.
