More than 30,000 Ahmadi Muslims gathered at the Jalsa Salana event in Hampshire to form a human chain stretching out from the hand of His Holiness, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the fifth Caliph of Ahmadiyya Islam.
Tens of millions of people around the world have already offered the Bay’ah, an Arabic word meaning “pledge of allegiance”, to the Caliph, affectionately known to his followers as ‘’Huzoor’’.
His Holiness announced that more than 550,000 people have joined the community in the last year alone. This makes it the fastest growing Muslim movement in the world.
The Caliph is the fifth successor of His Holiness Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who Ahmadi Muslims believe to be the Messiah prophesised by all the major world religions.
Ahmadi Muslims from around one hundred countries have travelled to the 200-acre site in the English countryside to take part in the event, which was transmitted via satellite to more than 70 million viewers across the world.
The pledge of allegiance was first taken by followers of the Prophet Muhammad, who vowed to sacrifice everything they had, including their lives and honour, for the Prophet and his mission.
The Qur’an speaks of this historic event in the following way:
“Verily, those who swear allegiance to thee indeed swear allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands.” (48:11)
His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
“The mission of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is to spread the compassion and mercy of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the corners of the world.”
The three day event is the UK’s longest running Muslim convention and is expected to be the largest ever Islamic gathering in Britain.
