Militants from the so-called Islamic State have taken over the largest Christian town in Iraq, Qaraqosh, and sent tens of thousands fleeing as a result. The militants took it overnight after Kurdish troops withdrew because they are stretched too thin. Qaraqosh, which is nearly all Christian and has a population of 50,000, is between Mosul and the Kurdish capital of Arbil. “It’s a catastrophe, a tragic situation. We call on the U.N. Security Council to immediately intervene. Tens of thousands of terrified people are being displaced as we speak, it cannot be described,” the archbishop of Kirkuk and Sulaimaniyah said.
No matter how much so many wish to deny it, ISIS is the face of Islam now to the non-Islamic world…
…and the non-Islamic world now grows ever more fearful of all Muslims as a result. But, I don’t think I need to remind the Ummah what ISIS represents. I believe the Ummah knows.
My question to the Ummah is: What are you going to do about ISIS? Whether you like it, or not, they belong to you. They are acting in the name of your religion. They are your face.
We condemn ISIS for their religious intolerance and war crimes.
Islam means peace and submission to the Will of God:
There should be no compulsion in religion. Surely, right has become distinct from wrong; so whosoever refuses to be led by those who transgress, and believes in Allah, has surely grasped a strong handle which knows no breaking. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Al Quran 2:257)
Dear Dr. Shah; I understand that there are many Muslims who condemn not only ISIS, but all other manner of discrimination against religious minorities in other countries such as Pakistan.
As it’s said here in the US, “I get that”.
However, words of condemnation are not enough. ISIS does not care a whit about that; indeed, they probably sneer at them. I dare say that if a Muslim, even a Sunni, presented themself in person to ISIS and condemned them to their faces, that person would probably be killed.
Words are not enough… I ask again: What is the Ummah going to do about ISIS?
The Arabic word Ummah stands for nation. Technically, There is no Muslim Ummah now. There are few Ummas. So there is no real answer to ” What is the Ummah going to do about ISIS?”
The realm of imagination along with the real has no bounds. There may be some imaginary answers to that question, such as: “Time will tell. It appears to be doomed if not supported by anti-Islamic forces.”
