Stand against war

Written by Myda Khan, Saskatoon, Canada

For the past week, my social media feed has been bombarded with posts regarding Palestine and Israel, and their ongoing conflict.
As the conflict continues, so do the questions that arise with it, such as: What is the cause of this conflict? Is it religious? And most importantly, who is to blame? Those who believe this war is solely a religious conflict, and that Islam and Judaism are incompatible seem to conveniently ignore the fact that for centuries Jews coexisted peacefully with Muslims under the

Ottoman Empire. This is not a war simply between being Muslim or Jewish. It is far more complex and, like any war, there’s a perpetrator and a defender.

However, we are far past the point where we need to point fingers to determine who is right and wrong. It is time for the international community to bring a stop to this massacre.

I will not remain silent and let our government continuously take sides and allow Israel “to defend.” I am sorry, Stephen Harper, but this is no solution.
