A group of 8 Vestal High School students Yousuf Shah, Ibraheem Rehman, Cheryl Limer, Zachary Eaton, Gregory Taylor, Jared Vargason, Tyler Walters and Bolong Yu will be going to a prestigious Conference in California to present their research findings.
These students are part of the school’s Network Science for the Next Generation program, which deals with research that relies on data sets and a lot of computational power.
They studied diseases and how they are connected. They used a study that had connected diseases based on their genes and they decided to compare that to how diseases are linked based on their symptoms. The students then made a network comparing the illnesses.
It is complex material and the students did such a fantastic job that they have been invited to the 2014 International School and Conference of Network Science next month in Berkeley, California.
They will be presenting their findings and hearing a variety of experts talk about research studies.
