On his radio show yesterday, Imam Shamshad A. Nasir of the Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino, California refuted the idea that resurrection somehow proves that Jesus Christ is God.

Imam was speaking on his weekly radio program entitled “Understanding Islam” on KCAA AM 750 in Southern California, where the lion’s share of the yesterday’s program contents were devoted to commemorating the life and achievements of Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad (1889 – 1965), the 2nd spiritual head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim community, who is considered the primary architect of the Ahmadiyya system of administration resulting in the community’s tremendous advancement.

The change of discussion came about in reference to a recent article in Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, a local daily newspaper, wherein the author attempted to stretch the connection between Christ’s supposed resurrection and his alleged Godhood – suggesting the former is a proof for the latter.

The article “Resurrection proves Jesus is God” by a guest columnist, Sam Lomen, was written subsequent to Imam Shamshad’s several recent articles in the same newspaper questioning exactly what Mr. Lomen has presented in his article: ‘God of the Bible to be a uni-plural or triune being.’

  1. That is true. Resurrection does not prove that Jesus is God. The resurrection (coming to life after dying) itself needs some proof. When Jesus a.s. was not dead on the cross, and he was alive when brought down from cross, he went into the tomb alive, there is no need to say that he resurrected. The Bible also says “he got up” or “He had risen”. Where is resurrection?

The two important tasks of Jesus a.s. were:
    1. To tell the children of Israel that he was a messenger from God Almighty.
    2. That a messenger will be coming after him and his name is Ahmad.

The first item is proved by Bible also where it is stated that Jesus said “He was sent..” That means he was a messenger.
Both the above news is written in the Quran in chapter 61.
And when Jesus a.s. was about to leave for long journey, he gave good news to his followers about the coming of a comforter (book of John, Paraclete). Gospel means good news and it was the good news of some one coming after Jesus a.s. that he gave to his followers.
