Amid the ongoing power tussle over the Kano Emirate, the 15th and 16th Emirs of Kano have separately called for unity, compassion and responsible leadership in their Eid-el-Fitr messages to residents.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual lessons of Ramadan by promoting charity, peaceful coexistence and support for the less privileged.

Sanusi made the call in his sermon during the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Kofar Mata Eid Ground, where he emphasised that Ramadan goes beyond fasting.

He urged the faithful to imbibe values such as patience, self-discipline and generosity, while encouraging increased support for orphans and vulnerable groups to strengthen social bonds.

The emir also called for intensified prayers for peace and unity in Kano State and the country at large, noting that harmony remains essential for national development.

He further prayed for global peace and a productive rainy season, expressing optimism for improved agricultural yields.

Sanusi charged parents and caregivers to ensure proper upbringing of children, stressing the importance of moral guidance in building a responsible society.

Dignitaries at the prayer ground included Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Secretary to the State Government Umar Ibrahim, and other senior officials.

In a related development, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also called for unity among Nigerians and urged leaders to prioritise the welfare and security of citizens.

Bayero made the appeal shortly after observing Eid prayers in Kano, stressing the need for kindness, love and mutual respect to foster peaceful coexistence.

He urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, describing leadership as a trust that must be exercised with responsibility and accountability.

The traditional ruler further highlighted prevailing economic challenges and called for practical measures to address them, while praying for wisdom and fairness among leaders.

Bayero also commended the Federal Government and members of the National Assembly for their support to Muslims during Ramadan and urged sustained efforts beyond the fasting period.

He praised Islamic scholars for their prayers and expressed hope for continued improvement in the availability and affordability of food and essential commodities.
