VILNIUS, LITHUANIA: After its recent posturing against US over Syria, Russia is now on a collision course with the European Union as it works towards scuttling a decisive summit in Lithuania – a Baltic nation that was under Soviet rule two decades ago.

Future belongs to East. EU and West already at saturation point. Russians have probably smelled it. Better to have unions with neighbouring countires rather than distant unreliable friends. China and India should also support the idea.
According to the book ‘The Next 100 Years’ by George Friedman you are correct that Western Europe is at a saturation point. However, due to over-aging Russia does not fear any better either. George Friedman gives a better future in Europe to Poland and Turkey. See:
