DETROIT — After a two-week investigation, the prosecutor here charged a white suburban homeowner on Friday with second-degree murder in the killing of an unarmed young black woman. The prosecutor rejected the man’s assertion that he had been acting in self-defense when he opened his front door and fired a shotgun at the woman through a locked screen door, striking her in the face.

The heading of this article is pretty misleading. According to The Daily Beast, the attorney for the murdered girl’s family said that racism was not behind the shooting. It was ‘human prejudice’, according to the paper. The shooting was totally senseless because on seeing someone on his dark porch, the man should have called the police instead of assuming that his house was about to be burgled.
Irresponsible, yes. But not racial.

The heading is very misleading. It gives the impression that the victim was going to change colour! The ‘while’ in the sentence is the cause.
